WHAT AREA OF MEDICINE ARE YOU INTERESTED IN PURSUING? HOW WILL YOUR ICAHN MOUNT SINAI EDUCATION PREPARE YOU FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAREER?
I am applying into physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai prepared me well for this path, as I was able to get involved early with the department by participating in research projects, shadowing, and volunteering at student-run community clinics.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CLASS YOU HAVE TAKEN SO FAR?
My favorite topics during my first and second years were anatomy and neurology. I really enjoyed learning about the mind-body connection and specifically how to identify issues with the nervous system based on things patients could or could not do with their bodies.
WHAT EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ARE YOU INVOLVED IN AT ICAHN MOUNT SINAI?
I am a teaching senior at the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership, a student-run free clinic for uninsured patients in East Harlem. This is an amazing opportunity only possible due to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai's unique location, as well as generous support from all the volunteer physicians, nurses, and students. This opportunity has not only strengthened my medical knowledge and experience, but has also fostered a desire to care for undeserved communities in my future practice.
