James Brooks, a former Marine Corps Captain, graduated from Harvard University in 2014 and served with the Marines from 2014 to 2021 in infantry, intelligence, and cyberwarfare roles. In addition to his course load at Icahn Mount Sinai, James is participating in a clerkship with the Bronx VA, which he counts among his most notable academic experiences thus far. James also leads a cognitive behavioral therapy training course for his fellow students and provides mental health care services to refugees. He hopes to serve populations affected by conflict and economic inequities and plans to work in emergency medicine with a research focus on post-traumatic stress disorder.
“Thank you immensely for your support. This scholarship has allowed me to seek out unpaid research and clinical activities I otherwise would have had to replace with paid work. These experiences have been some of my most meaningful in medical school, especially working in the refugee mental health clinic.”
