John Di Capua, MD, ISMMS ’19 is currently a resident at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Interventional Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology (IR/DR) program. He graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in May 2019. Previously he earned his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a M.H.S in Environmental Health Science.

HIS EXPERIENCE AT MOUNT SINAI

Research has played a large role in Dr. Di Capua’s time at ISMMS. He has participated in research within the Department of Interventional Radiology, Department of Orthopedics, and the Department of Hospital Medicine, publishing 27 peer reviewed papers in 3 years and presenting his work at several national conferences and winning several awards.

His research-oriented mind has drawn him to the field of interventional radiology (IR) as it is an extremely innovative field that combines various imaging modalities, a wide array of minimally invasive procedures, and cutting-edge technology to best treat patients. He wishes to be at the forefront of technology and procedure development in order to have the ability to treat and follow patients longitudinally.

Outside of his academics, he enjoys scuba diving, an activity he picked up along with his father and brother a few years ago. It has become a true passion and they are currently PADI Rescue Divers, intending on obtaining their Masters Certifications soon.

ADVICE FOR NEW STUDENTS

Mr. Di Capua’s main advice to new students is to not underestimate the value of “putting yourself out there.” He believes that even though it may be tough to balance several different commitments at once, if you push yourself to try new things and stick with them, you will learn something unique and important.
