Anisha Kasi was initially drawn to medicine upon reading the book “Mountains Beyond Mountains” by Tracy Kidder. This biography chronicles the work of Dr. Paul Farmer, a physician and medical anthropologist, and his efforts to combat tuberculosis in countries like Haiti. Reading this book encouraged and inspired Anisha to consider the roles that poverty and other disparities play in health care. Although only in her first year of medical school, Anisha is interested in ophthalmology and addressing irreversible blindness. She is currently volunteering with the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership’s ophthalmology clinic, and is looking forward to all of the shadowing, research, and mentoring opportunities that Icahn Mount Sinai has to offer.
“With the financial burden of my education partially relieved due to your generous scholarship, I will be able to focus my time on growing into the best physician I can be. Thank you so much for your support.”
