Honor Mount Sinai Alumni with Special Recognition

Each year, the Mount Sinai Alumni Association takes nominations for nine distinct awards which celebrate Mount Sinai alumni and students who have made extraordinary contributions to the medical field, and to the Mount Sinai community. 

Awards and Eligibility

In memory of Saul H. Horowitz, Jr, a longtime Trustee of the Mount Sinai Hospital and School of Medicine who was pivotal in the founding of the school, this award is given to a physician who has made or shows promise of making significant contributions as a teacher, investigator, and/or practitioner in the field of medicine.

Eligibility: Any physician who received an MD from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

In memory of J. Lester Gabrilove, MD, considered one of the fathers of modern endocrinology and beloved physician, this award is given to a member of the Mount Sinai community with proven and continued excellence in clinical or basic research.

Eligibility: Any member of the Mount Sinai community.

In honor of Terry Ann Krulwich, PhD, beloved scientist, student champion, and founding director of the MD/PhD Program, this award is given to an outstanding Mount Sinai-trained physician scientist.

Eligibility: Any physician scientist (MD or MD/PHD) who is a graduate of Mount Sinai (including graduate school, medical school, residency and fellowship, or post-doctoral alumni).

This award is given to an individual (physician or non-physician) who has provided exceptional service to the Mount Sinai community.

Eligibility: Any member of the Mount Sinai community.

In honor of Dr. Jeffrey T. Laitman, internationally regarded anatomist and beloved educator, this award is given to an individual who has made major contributions to the field of medical education.

Eligibility: Any medical educator who is part of the Mount Sinai community.

This award is given to a scientist who, since graduation from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, has made significant contributions as an investigator, and/or practitioner in their field.

Eligibility: Any scientist who is a graduate of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences or completed post-doctoral training at Mount Sinai.

In memory of Sidney Grossman, MD, empathic physician and human rights advocate, this award is given to an individual (physician or non-physician) who has shown extraordinary service and inspirational leadership to others.

Eligibility: Any member of the Mount Sinai community. 

This award is given to a clinician who has made sustained outstanding commitments to patient care.

Eligibility: Any member of the Mount Sinai community. 

This award is given to a student or trainee who exhibits exemplary leadership in outstanding service to the Mount Sinai community. 

Eligibility: Any student or trainee of the Mount Sinai community. Up to two awards will be given, up to one for a current medical or graduate student and up to one for a current resident, fellow, or post-doctoral fellow.
