Dr. Laurie Rose Handwerker and David Alexander Braun are to be married
Sunday at the Sephardic Temple in Cedarhurst, N.Y. Rabbi Robert
Scheinberg is to officiate.
The couple, both 28, met at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where the
bride received a medical degree and the groom is in his final year of a
seven-year combined medical degree and Ph.D. program at Mount Sinai and
New York University.
The bride will be taking her husband’s name. She is a third-year
pediatric resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. She graduated
magna cum laude from Tufts University.
She is the daughter of Dr. Sara Handwerker and Dr. David Handwerker of
Baldwin, N.Y. The bride’s mother was a maternal fetal medicine
specialist at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, where she specialized in
high-risk pregnancies. Her father is an obstetrician and gynecologist at
Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn.
The groom has completed his Ph.D. in computational biology as a part of
the joint program. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton. He is a
son of Aurel Braun of Toronto and the late Julianna Borsa Braun. The
groom’s father is a professor of international relations and political
science at the University of Toronto. His mother retired as an editor at
Art Magazine in Toronto.
