Olympian Maria Michta will be among the 500 women competing in the 29th annual Runner's Edge 5k run Saturday in Farmingdale.

The event will start at the southern end of Woodward Parkway in Farmingdale at 8:30 a.m. and finish on the Farmingdale High School track.

"It's  a great thing for Farmingdale," said Mike Polansky, president of the Greater Long Island Running Club. "Her next race is the Olympics. Here's a local raca and this Olympian is coming. She hasn't forgottten her roots. It's terrific."

The Nesconset native has been the USA Outdoor 20 Kilometer Racewalk champion for the past three years.

She graduated from CW Post as the valedictorian with a degree in biology. Michta is pursuing her doctorate in microbiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, but has taken a leave of absence to focus on the London Olympic Games.

Her last race was on July 1, when she won the U.S. Olympic Trials 20 kilometer racewalk at Hayward Field in Eugene Ore.  She won with a time of 1 hour, 34 minutes, 53.33 seconds to qualify as the United States representative in the 20 kilometer Racewalk in London.  Her next race after Saturday's event will be at the London Olympics.
