Estrangement Support Group for Parents who have been cut off by their adult children
Dr. Deborah Green, a certified psychoanalyst, and licensed psychotherapist in private practice with more than 25 years of experience in providing individual, couple and family therapy for grief, depression, anxiety, pet loss, and other life cycle issues has started group sessions on Parental Estrangement. Often the direct result of divorce, this ubiquitous problem leaves parents with unwarranted feelings of guilt, anxiety, depression and paralyzing grief.
Many parents feel ashamed, humiliated and embarrassed that they have no contact with their adult children. This silent epidemic needs to be addressed. After hearing heart-wrenching stories about parents not invited to their adult children’s wedding; never meeting their grandchildren, and seeing siblings and extended family being cut off, Dr. Green believes that parents need not suffer in silence.
Based on the seminal writings of Dr. Joshua Coleman, a Psychologist and leader in this field, Dr. Green is offering a 10 week support group program to help parents who have been rejected by their adult children. Her office is located at 125 East 84th street between Park and Lexington Ave. Office telephone is 212 772 6197.
