Katherine Alyssa Nolan, the daughter of Margaret K. Nolan and Dr. Bruce A. Nolan of Miami, was married Thursday to Young Lu, the son of Dr. Shufen Meng and Qi Lu of Newton, Mass. Frank Nuñez, a Universal Life minister, officiated at a nondenominational ceremony that incorporated Chinese and Western customs at the Rusty Pelican restaurant in Miami.

The bride, 22, and the bridegroom, 23, are studying for medical degrees at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where she is in her first year and he is in his second year. They met at Cornell, from which they both graduated, she with distinction.

The bride is also a president in New York of two university-based chapters of the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children, an organization with headquarters in Philadelphia that seeks to improve pediatric and maternal health in the developing world.

Her father is a neurologist and the director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Her mother is a English tutor for high school students in Miami.

The bridegroom’s mother, who is a pediatric surgeon, is now a clinical researcher in hematology at Harvard Medical School. His father is a financial analyst in Boston in the risk management division of John Hancock Financial, the insurance and financial services company.
