The Schneider-Lesser Foundation recently made a gift to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to provide support to promising young investigators in science and medicine. After a rigorous selection process by the Committee on Special Awards, four Mount Sinai researchers have been named the first Schneider-Lesser Fellows. Each will receive $25,000 in unrestricted support to pursue independent investigations.

The Schneider-Lesser Fellows and their projects are:

Joseph Ashour, PhD, Assistant Professor, Microbiology, “A novel resolution to the paradox of influenza virus antigenic drift”

Maria Soledad Sosa, PhD, Assistant Professor, Medicine (Hematology and Medical Oncology), “Epigenomic profiling of open chromatin during tumor dormancy”

Talia H. Swartz, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Medicine (Infectious Diseases), “Targeting purinergic receptors to block HIV infection and inflammation”

Raymund L. Yong, MD, Assistant Professor, Neurosurgery and Oncological Sciences, and Director of Outreach, Comprehensive Brain Tumor Program, “Prospective evaluation of treatment-related mutagenesis in patient-derived glioblastoma initiating cells”

We extend our congratulations to these outstanding investigators, and our thanks to the Schneider-Lesser Foundation for their support.
