Appointment of Guy Montgomery, PhD, as Faculty Director, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

We are delighted to share the appointment of Guy H. Montgomery, PhD, as Faculty Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Established in 2000, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is dedicated to enhancing the well-being and productivity of our large cadre of postdoctoral research fellows. As Faculty Director, Dr. Montgomery will oversee the broad range of functions and services provided by the Office, including postdoctoral fellow recruitment, skill and career development, housing, and conflict resolution.
Dr. Montgomery has been a faculty member at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for nearly two decades. He is an Associate Professor of Oncological Sciences, and within his department serves as Director of the Integrative Behavioral Medicine Program and as Director of two NIH-funded R25E Training Programs for psychosocial cancer care providers. With a secondary appointment in Psychiatry, Dr. Montgomery is also Director of Psychological Services for The Dubin Breast Center of The Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai. His research, funded by the National Cancer Institute and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, focuses on breast cancer patients’ experiences of cancer and its treatment, and aims to develop psychosocial interventions to improve patients’ quality of life. Dr. Montgomery is a committed mentor to both pre- and postdoctoral fellows in cancer prevention and control.
Dr. Montgomery received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Connecticut in Storrs. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer prevention and control at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, as well as postdoctoral training in health economics at Columbia University. Dr. Montgomery is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), and is a past president of the APA’s Society for Psychological Hypnosis. In addition to the recognition he has earned for his scholarly work, Dr. Montgomery also attracts national and international media attention through multiple media outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, television news programs, and National Public Radio.
