Appointment of Shirish Huprikar, MD as Interim Chief Medical Officer of The Mount Sinai Hospital

We are very pleased to sharethe appointment of Shirish Huprikar, MD to Interim Chief Medical Officer of The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Huprikar, the hospital’s Medical Director of Quality since May 2016, has been a clinical leader, inhabiting various roles within the Division of Infectious Diseases. He has served as site principal investigator for NIH-funded and industry-sponsored clinical trials and held leadership roles in regional, national, and international committees and societies. An internationally recognized leader in the field of transplant infectious diseases, he is currently serving as chair of the Infectious Diseases Community of Practice of the American Society of Transplantation. Dr. Huprikar has also received several Department of Medicine teaching awards and the Solomon Silver Award in Clinical Medicine.
His career at The Mount Sinai Hospital began 20 years ago with a residency and fellowship in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Since then, Dr. Huprikar has taken on various leadership roles throughout the hospital. As Program Director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship from 2001-2014, Dr. Huprikar was instrumental in the development of a prestigious training program that consistently attracts top candidates nationally. He established the first academic Transplant Infectious Diseases Program in New York and has developed robust clinical and academic initiatives. He has also served as co-chair of the Transplant Clinical Quality Committee and has made significant contributions to improving quality and patient safety in our transplant programs. In addition, Dr. Huprikar developed a quality improvement program in the Division of Infectious Diseases and has directed initiatives to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization across the hospital.
Dr. Huprikar has been critical to many hospital-wide improvements in safety and quality, including the root cause analysis program, and served a key role in facilitating reductions in sepsis mortality and excess hospital days.
