We are pleased to share the appointment of Madelyn M. Pearson, MA, RN, NEA-BC, to the position of Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer for Mount Sinai Downtown and Mount Sinai Brooklyn. In this role, Ms. Pearson will provide executive leadership and strategic planning for nursing and patient care services across the Downtown facilities—Mount Sinai Beth Israel (MSBI), MSBI Phillips Ambulatory Care Center, MSBI Comprehensive Cancer Center West, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) —and Mount Sinai Brooklyn.
In collaboration with the presidents of the three hospitals—Susan Somerville, RN, of MSBI; James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, of NYEE; and Lin H. Mo, MBA, MPH, of Mount Sinai Brooklyn—Ms. Pearson will supervise Leslyn Williamson, DNP, MSN, MPH, RN, Vice President, Patient Care Services, for Mount Sinai Brooklyn, and Cynthia Girdusky, RN, CNOR, MPA, RNFA, Vice President, Patient Care Services, for NYEE and Mount Sinai Downtown Perioperative Services. She will be integral in the leadership of patient experience improvements, clinical and quality programs, and in the redesign of processes to improve patient outcomes and efficiency.
Ms. Pearson joined the Mount Sinai Health System in July 2015 as Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Throughout this time, she has focused on the development of the Patient Care Services strategic plan and council model, the implementation of the first learning needs assessment and nurse-driven protocol, reduction of hospital-acquired conditions, and the implementation of cost-reducing and efficiency-promoting initiatives. Ms. Pearson co-chairs the Mount Sinai Health System Nursing Leadership Council.
Ms. Pearson began her nursing career in 1983 as a staff nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital. She worked in nursing roles at what was then known as Beth Israel Medical Center twice, from 1984 to 1987 and again from 1989 to 1993, when she joined the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (EHMC) in Englewood, New Jersey. Beginning there as Director of Maternal Child Health/Psychiatry and Ambulatory Services, she was promoted to Vice President of Clinical Services in 1999 and Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services, and Chief Nursing Officer in 2010.
At EHMC, Ms. Pearson was pivotal in achieving top rankings from Health Grades quality outcomes across a wide range of clinical services, led the achievement of Magnet status for the facility, led efforts to improve facility patient satisfaction outcomes, and oversaw capital and operational budgets for services totaling more than $52 million in operating and personnel expenses.
Ms. Pearson earned her MA in Nursing Administration at New York University. She has served on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Englewood, the Felician College Nursing Advisory Board, the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey, and the Healthcare Career and Advancement Program of SEIU 1999 and the League of Voluntary Hospitals. She is currently pursuing her DNP at Rutgers University.
