Eric L. Legome, MD Appointed Chair of Emergency Medicine, Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai St. Lukes

We are pleased to share the appointment of Eric L. Legome, MD, as Chair of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, and as Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for Emergency Medicine for the Mount Sinai Health System, effective September 12, 2016. Dr. Legome joins Mount Sinai from Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, where he was the Chief of Emergency Medicine since 2010. While at Kings County, he served as the President of their Medical Board, and chaired many NYC Health + Hospitals system-level committees. He was a Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and has remained active in teaching and research throughout his tenure.
Dr. Legome began his medical career in 1996 as an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was active in teaching as an Associate Residency Director of the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program, oversaw their continuing medical education programming, and served as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
In 2002, Dr. Legome was recruited to serve as the Residency Director of the NYU/Bellevue Emergency Medicine Residency Program, with 60 residents. While there, he also served as an attending physician in Emergency Medicine at New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital Center, and the Manhattan VA Hospital, and was an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at New York University Medical School.
In 2008, Dr. Legome joined St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan as the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. He also served as Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the St. Vincent’s-affiliated New York Medical College until 2010.
Dr. Legome has authored more than 80 scientific papers, book chapters, abstracts, and clinical reviews related to emergency medicine. He has co-edited several trauma texts, reviewed and edited numerous clinical journals, and served on and led multiple national academic committees. An expert in his field, Dr. Legome has appeared on many national and local television news reports to discuss emergency medicine.
Dr. Legome earned his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1992, completed a general surgical internship with Emory University’s Department of Surgery, and a residency in emergency medicine at Denver Health Medical Center.
