Michael R. Hausman, MD, Named Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, Mount Sinai Health System

We are pleased to announce that Michael R. Hausman, MD, the Dr. Robert K. Lippmann Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), has been appointed as the Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery for the Mount Sinai Health System.
In his new role, Dr. Hausman will assume leadership of the renowned C.V. Starr Hand Surgery Center at the Mount Sinai West campus. He will remain as Vice Chair of Academic Affairs in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at ISMMS and lead its hand and elbow fellowship program. Starting March 1, 2016, Dr. Hausman will see patients at Mount Sinai West in the C.V. Starr Hand Center; he will also continue to see patients at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Hausman is an internationally recognized upper extremity surgeon treating disorders of the hand, elbow, shoulder and peripheral nerves. He also performs microsurgical reconstruction of congenital, trauma, burn, and neoplastic conditions throughout the body. He has pioneered the use of arthroscopy for treating pediatric elbow deformities, adult fractures and dislocations, and has been invited to lecture and direct courses on these topics and on elbow reconstruction internationally. Dr. Hausman has also devised new and novel treatments for conditions of the wrist and reconstruction of injured peripheral nerves, as well as common conditions such as tennis elbow. He has published over 100 articles on these treatments and on his research on the regulation of bone growth and nerve injury.
Dr. Hausman has served Mount Sinai in a number of leadership positions, including Interim Chair, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, for the Mount Sinai Health System; Chief of Hand and Elbow Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital; and Chairman of the Professionalism Committee of the Faculty Council. He has served on the board of directors of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, was President of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, and is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.
Dr. Hausman graduated cum laude from Yale University and Yale Medical School, where he completed his residency and served as Chief Resident. He then completed a prestigious hand surgery fellowship at Roosevelt Hospital under Drs. J. William Littler and Richard Eaton, and earned a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand, a rigorous certification for subspecialists.
