Mark Lebwohl, MD, FAAD, elected president of the American Academy of Dermatology

Mark Lebwohl, MD, FAAD, MSH '83 a dermatologist in New York, N.Y., has been elected president of the American Academy of Dermatology (Academy), the world’s largest dermatologic society, representing more than 17,000 physicians specializing in the diagnosis and medical, surgical, and cosmetic treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions. In addition, Dr. Lebwohl will hold this same position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association. He will be installed as president-elect in March 2014 and will hold the office of president for one year beginning in March 2015.
“I promise to work toward maintaining a strong reputation for the Academy and all member dermatologists,” Dr. Lebwohl said. “My objective is for Academy members to continue to provide quality care for all patients despite the changing health care environment, while ensuring our members’ contributions to the field of medicine are fairly valued.”
Dr. Lebwohl earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass. He completed his residency in dermatology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York where he is currently a professor and chairman in dermatology.
Dr. Lebwohl is a current member of the Academy’s board of directors. He is past president of the Manhattan-Metropolitan Dermatological Society, State Society of Dermatology and NY Dermatological Society. In addition, he is former chair of the Scientific Assembly Committee and former assistant editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is the author of 50 book chapters and 500 articles. He has co-edited 10 books and given more than 500 presentations.
